The Curtains

This piece took me a whole school year to get this piece finished. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to create glass curtains that framed the painting. The first image is my mock up and vision. At the time I didn’t know how I was going to hang it and it took my many months until I found something that would work. The second image is my third attempt at creating the curtains. In this iteration, I made a mounds of plaster which I arranged under the piece of glass. This made the glass just naturally melt and form over the hills and valleys. I found this method create more organic, fabric like texture in the glass opposed to what I did before which was creating a plaster mold spanning the entire piece of glass. The kiln was looking like a jenga tower the way I stacked bricks, plaster, and glass all around the kiln! These pieces were later fastened to steel bars which works to hand the pieces by wall hooks.
