What Led Me to You
36” x 36”
Acrylic and red thread on stretched canvas
In “What Led Me to You” the artist narrates the story discovery between the present and past in a fictional context. In conjunction with Onwards, this is a prequel to the meeting of the two characrers. The surrealist landscape is inspired by online recent media trends of hyperfemme outfits and Chinese douyin makeup looks. The discovery of a pottery piece is the only things that breaks the scene from idealistic bliss to the realizaton of struggle. The artist ties in their experience of researching and discovering the history of gender roles and sexuality in imperial China to break the idealistic content of the character as a reminder that without those in the past the present could not be possible.
