Linocut print on watercolor paper, digital finish

I had a wonderful time creating this print that I hope many people can find comforting. I asked many friends and peers what rituals or objects make them feel safe in their indentity and euphoric. I also included some of my own as well. This piece is super important to me and others of the queer community and it’s great to see how others take care of themselves. I carved this into linolium blocks which you can see on the left. Print making isn’t my main practice, but I really find myself enjoying it whenever I can.

I finished this piece digitally to add the red thread. I orginally thought about doing a reduction linocut, or having two separate blocks. However I felt having one block just for some of the thread paths might be a waste of material, so I decided to add them digitally. The decorative thread, which is a motif in my work, ties all of these elements together in a symbol of community and solidarity. We all find things that make us feel whole and beautiful, and as a community we stand together to support each other and our shared experiences.
