Sketches

I had two dimension options for this piece. One was wider and the one that made the cut was this longer piece. I draw a lot of it on tracing paper, and then uploaded it digitally and addjusted things from there. I really like this sketch beause you can really see where I took the eraser tool and adjusted the orginal drawing. Something about it feels collage-like which I like. When I went through a couple iterations of the dancer’s pose as there are a lot of graceful and striking poses that are a part of opera dances. But I landed on this one because I like how asymmetrical it is. It’s as if the dancer is teetering and just barely able to balance themselves. While posing for the reference I was barely able to balance myself haha! And as you can see, the trees changed from the planning process to the final piece. As I wanted to create this very graphic and flat contrast to everything else to emphasize the stage-like set up.
