Color Studies

Most color studies are done digitally because of its convenience. I was debating on what type of color scheme I wanted however I knew I had to include a deep, rich red. Mostly because of it’s visual beauty, but also because the story of Zhao Jun Chu Sai  昭君出塞  features the iconic red cape. As you can see, I tried to play around with cooler tones in the purples, but it contrasted too much. Alternatively, I tried a complementary color too with the blue-green teals since those aren’t colors I work with much, but it wasn’t speaking to me. In the end I went with this super warm, analogous cholor scheme which i really like. And as always, these are simply guides. In the final I ended up adding some of the pale pinks that was in the second color study into the final one. this helped with the saturation hierarchy of the final piece.
