“’How sincere is your love for me!’ exclaimed the ruler. ‘You forgot your own appetite and think only of giving me good things to eat!’”
-excerpt from the Tale of the Shared Peach c. 240 BCE.

Literature of imperial China often inclued proverbs narrating stories about gay relationships of the time. The Shared Peach, depicts a thoughful moment between Duke Ling of Wei and a court official, Mizi Xia.

Sharing food is a universal kind gesture. This retelling of The Shared Peach marries the two characters of “Onwards!”, and “What Led Me to You” in a tender and intimate moment. In this piece the artist brings in metal: a rigid and grounded material. The forged foliage, reminis- cent of iron fencework, creates a barrier between the couple and their surroundings. It is a space to hold their feelings and a space to be themselves.
