Frame Details

I learned how to tig weld as my first ever weld in my life. Even though a lot of this was simply tack welding, I struggled for awhile trying to get the technique down. It was work it! I bent two pieces of flat bar which I drilled holes into which will help mount the frame onto the panel. Then I welded all the individual pieces onto the top of the bar. It’s exactly the type of work I like to do: detailed and meticulous. I’m happy with how the frame looks. Ornamental embellisments from gothic architecture, baroque paintings, and European futurniture have always been my inspirations and making this frame felt like an homage to those things. I fixed it with a simple matte clear coat. At first I had thought about gilting it or painting it, but after all the work letting the nature material exist as it had been worked felt like the right decision. I love these detail shots, I think the frame turned out beautiful.
